4th STRAIGHT WIN
Friday, October 20, 2017

Hendersonville returned to Memorial Stadium for the 1st time in a month were able to get their 4th consecutive win by defeating Region 4 opponent Rossview.  The Hawks would strike first, but the COMMANDOS, led by #3 Anthony Hughes who had 230 all-purpose yards and 3 touchdowns, would immediately answer by returning the kickoff for a score to tie the game.  Hendersonville would not trail again in the contest as they went on to a 37-17 victory.

Rossview would receive the opening kickoff and score on their 2nd offensive snap with a 72 yard TD run putting the COMMANDOS down 0-7 early.  Hughes would have his first score on the ensuing kickoff as he raced 96 yards to the endzone for Hendersonville’s first touchdown.  #97 Ashton Dodd would add the PAT to tie the game at 7.  The Black & Gold defense would force the Hawks to a 3 & out on their next series with #5 Reggie Grisham making a 3rd down stop to force the Hawk punt.  After the punt, Hendersonville would have their first offensive series of the game with the score still 7-7.  #13 Helton Porter would have a 1st down run to get the COMMANDOS moving.  A promising drive would stall in Hawk territory and HHS would call on Dodd for a 40 yard fieldgoal that he would make to give Hendersonville a lead that they would not give up.  The next RHS possession would get to midfield with a 1st down run followed by a 1st down pass, but the defense would get a stop forcing a punt.

The RHS punt would be the 1st play of the 2nd quarter and the snap would go over the punters head giving HHS the ball just 17 yards away from the endzone.  The COMMANDOS would take advantage of the field position as Hughes would run the ball to the 1 yard line and #6 Brett Coker would cross the goaline making the score 17-7.  Rossview would move the ball into Hendersonville territory and end up getting a field goal on their next possession to make the score 17-10.  #32 Derek Kincaid would return this kickoff to the 50 yard line, but Hendersonville would only run 3 offensive plays before punting.  #35 Jonathan Lisbona would have a nice punt forcing the Hawks to start their drive inside their own 20 yard line.  A 1st down run by Rossview would move the ball off their own goaline, but HHS would soon force a punt.  A good return on the punt by Grisham would set HHS up in Hawk territory on this drive.  A reception by Kincaid from QB Coker would move the ball before Coker would connect with #2 Gabe Dalton for a 34 yard touchdown putting HHS up 24-10 near the end of the half.  RHS would get one first down before the teams went to the locker rooms for halftime.

Kincaid would get HHS moving on the opening possession of the 2nd half with a 3rd down run.  Porter would then convert a 4th down with a run to keep the drive alive, and Hughes would finish the drive with a 31 yard TD run.  Rossview would answer on their first 2nd half possession, marching the ball down the field for 14 plays as they converted two 4th downs on their way to the endzone.  They would score with an 11 yard run.  Just as he did after the Hawks first score, Hughes would respond for the COMMANDOS, this time with a 70 yard touchdown run on the first snap of the next HHS offensive drive.  The PAT would be no good making the score 37-17.  Rossview’s next possession would start near the end of the 3rd quarter.

HHS would force a Hawk punt early in the 4th quarter.  The teams would then trade punts a couple of times in an uneventful 4th quarter.  Rossview would get another drive going before #56 Bryce Tyler could join with #21 Jackson Alford for a 4th down stop to give HHS the ball back.  HHS would run the clock out as #14 Issiah Chandler would have a 1st down run allowing the COMMANDOS to let the clock tick down with Hendersonville up by 20 points.

The regular season will conclude next Friday night with Hendersonville (6-3) being at home for the final game of the 2017 season.  It will be senior night for HHS and they will take on the Mt. Juliet Golden Bears (9-0).  Kickoff will be at 7:00 in Memorial Stadium, and there will be a ceremony for all of the senior players and their families prior to kickoff.
