COMMANDOS GET ROAD REGION VICTORY
Friday, September 29, 2017

Hendersonville pushed their overall record over 500 while improving to 2-1 in Region 4 play with a 42-28 win at Wilson Central.  HHS would end the game with a pair of 100 yard rushers as #3 Anthony Hughes would run the ball 18 for 134 yards and #32 Derek Kincaid would rush for 107 yards on 13 carriers in a winning effort for the COMMANDOS.

The COMMANDOS would not start the game off well; after allowing the Wildcats to march down the field and score with an 8 yard TD run, HHS would turn the ball over on their first offensive series.  Following the turnover, Wilson Central would have a 47 yard TD run called back helping Hendersonville force a 3 & out.  The COMMANDOS would get their offense going the 2nd time that touched the ball as #13 Helton Porter would stretch out for a 1st down followed by 1st down runs by #6 Brett Coker and #7 Logan Spurrier.  The drive would end with Coker finding #2 Gabe Dalton for a 32 yard touchdown.  #97 Ashton Dodd would hit the PAT to tie the game up at 7.  The Black & Gold defense would force another 3 & out as the 1st quarter was coming to a close.

Hughes would have an explosive play to start the 2nd quarter with a 56 yard TD run to give HHS the lead 14-7.  WCHS would have a big run to start their next drive, but HHS would eventually force a punt on the drive.  The punt would be downed inside the COMMANDO 5 yard line, but Hughes would have a run to give HHS some breathing room.  A sack and an incompletion would force a Hendersonville punt.  The Wildcats would respond with a long pass to get into the red zone and they would tie the game back up with a 1 yard run.  Hendersonville would be facing a 4th down on their next drive, the COMMANDOS would hand the ball to Hughes and he would respond, converting and keeping the drive going with a tough run.  Hughes would have three more 1st down runs on this drive setting up 1st and goal near the end of the 1st half.  Coker would throw for another score, this time finding #82 Austin Halas in the endzone for the score.  The ensuing kickoff would be the final play before halftime.

On the first drive of the 2nd half, Hendersonville would fail to convert on a 4th down try giving the ball to WCHS.  The Wildcats would pick up a 1st down before a pass break up by #5 Reggie Grisham would help the COMMANDOS force a punt.  HHS would get this drive going as Coker passed to Hughes for a 1st down before Kincaid, Grisham, and Porter would each have 1st down runs.  The drive would end prematurely however as HHS would fumble.  On the 1st play following the turnover, #20 Nate Hancock would get the ball back for HHS by intercepting a pass.  The COMMANDOS would take advantage of the turnover as they would drive down the field highlighted with plays by Hughes, Porter, and Kincaid before Coker would run the ball in for a score.

The Wildcats would put together a nice drive on the COMMANDO defense early in the 4th quarter and score with a 5 yard run to make the score 28-21.  Hancock would return the ensuing kickoff past midfield, and Kincaid and Hughes would have nice runs before Porter took the ball into the endzone with a 12 yard TD run.  Hendersonville would force another turnover on the next Wildcat possession as #51 James Jordan would force a fumble that #8 Josh Gerleve would recover setting HHS up with great field position.  A 3rd down run by Grisham would move the ball inside the 20, and Spurrier would find the endzone with a 4 yard TD to put HHS up 42-21.  The wildcats would put together another scoring drive on their next series and cross the goaline with 7 yard TD pass.  #83 Josh Owen would recover an onside kick attempt and Hendersonville would be able to run out the clock getting the victory making their overall record 4-3.

Hendersonville (4-3) is set to play their last non-Region contest next week as they will travel to their oldest rival to take on the Gallatin Green Wave (6-1).  Kickoff at the WaveYard will be at 7:00.

The Freshman (3-3) team will also play at Gallatin on Thursday night with a 6:30 kickoff.  The JV team will be at home on Monday to take on Wilson Central in a game that is set to start at 6:00.
