HHS 1-0 IN REGION
Friday, September 01, 2017

The COMMANDOS traveled to Station Camp in the 1st Region contest of 2017 and came away with a 47-7 victory as wind and rain pounded both teams all night.

Hendersonville got the ball to start with #7 Logan Spurrier returning the opening kickoff into Bison territory at the 49 yard line.  #3 Anthony Hughes would convert a 3rd down with a run before the COMMANDOS were forced to punt.  A bad snap on the punt would give SCHS good field position on their first possession.  After a 1st down catch, the Bison would punt the ball back to HHS.  The 1st play of this series for HHS would see Hughes bust a long run helping get the ball moving in a drive that would end with a score as #6 Brett Coker would throw a TD pass to #13 Helton Porter.  #97 Ashton Dodd would add the extra point to make the score 7-0.  The COMMANDOS would force a 3 & out on the ensuing possession as the defensive stop was highlighted by a tackle for loss by #14 Issiah Chandler and #66 Lane Smith and a good 3rd down tackle by Smith.  #5 Reggie Grisham would have a good punt return to give Hendersonville the ball at the SCHS 40 yard line.

This Hendersonville drive would go into the 2nd quarter, and the COMMANDOS would attempt a 55 yard field goal that would come up short.  The Bison would drive into HHS territory after the miss field goal, but Hendersonville would get off the field as #82 Austin Halas would get a quarterback sack on 4th down to end the drive.  A big run by #32 Derek Kincaid would set up 1st and goal for HHS.  Hughes would rush into the endzone with an 8 yard run that would make the score 14-0.  Following the kickoff, the Bison would again get a drive going.  After getting into Hendersonville territory, #76 Wilson Higgs would force a fumble that the COMMANDOS could not recover, but a sack by #77 Austin Hamblin and Halas would force a punt.  Coker would have a good 1st down run on this series for HHS and then Spurrier would rush into SCHS territory, however this drive would come up empty after Coker would come up short on a 4th down scramble and HHS would turn the ball over on downs.  With time running down in the half, the Bison would kneel on the ball as the team’s broke with HHS up 14-0.

Station Camp would get the ball to start the 2nd half, and after picking up one first down they would punt.  On the COMMANDOS 2nd offensive snap, Hughes would take off for a 48 yard TD run.  After the kickoff, the Bison would start at midfield.  A 3rd down tackle for lost yardage by Grisham would force another Bison punt.  Kincaid would keep the next drive for Hendersonville going with a good 3rd down run and then Spurrier would run 48 yards to the endzone.  After the PAT was no good, Hendersonville would lead 27-0.  On the ensuing kickoff, #31 Tyler Dang would force a fumble that bounced into the endzone and Grisham would be there to pounce on it making the score 34-0.  Station Camp would answer on their next offensive snap having a 66 yard rushing touchdown.  The COMMANDOS would move down the field again after the Bison TD with good runs by #20 Nate Hancock.  The drive would be capped off with a 6 yard TD run by Porter.  The black & gold defense would force a 3 & out as the quarter came to an end.

Hendersonville would turn the ball over on downs on this possession.  The Bison would get a 1st down run on this possession, then #81 Jaylen Downes would intercept a pass, but HHS would not get the turnover due to penalty.  The COMMANDOS would force a turnover on downs after #19 Drew Hohenbrink would combine with Dang for a tackle for loss on 4th down.  Chandler would get the next COMMANDO drive started before #12 Evan Zecco busted a run to the 1 yard line.  Hohenbrink would score the final points of the night with a 1 yard TD run making the score 47-7, and the clock would run out on the next SCHS possession.

Hendersonville (2-1) will be on TV next Friday night as the COMMANDOS have been selected to be the WUXP My30 Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week as they will play host to the Beech Buccaneers (3-0) at Memorial Stadium.  The game is set to kickoff at 7:00.

The Freshman team’s game versus Station Camp last week got postponed to September 25 due to weather on Thursday night.  The freshman team (1-1) will go on the road this Thursday to play against Beech.  The game at Shackle Island Stadium will kickoff at 6:30.
