COMMANDOS BURNED TO START 2017
Friday, August 18, 2017

Hendersonville traveled to the Inferno at Blackman High School to start the 2017 season and got burned by the Blaze losing by 35 points.  The Blaze jumped out to a 35 point lead as they easily defeated the COMMANDOS 28-63.  The Blaze scored on their 1st 7 offensive possession while adding a punt return and kickoff return for touchdown with very little resistance from HHS.  After falling into a 35 point hole, Hendersonville would finally get points on the board in the 2nd quarter, but BHS would answer every time Hendersonville scored en route to the victory.

Blackman would receive the opening kickoff and HHS would play good defense on the 1st two snaps forcing a 3rd down attempt.  The Blaze would convert the 3rd down and then have a 63 yard TD run to get out to 7 point lead after the PAT.  A long catch by #82 Austin Halas thrown from quarterback #6 Brett Coker would start Hendersonville’s first offensive series as they moved the ball to midfield, but after 3 more plays, HHS would call on #35 Jonathan Lisbona to punt.  Blackman would march the ball 87 yards in 7 plays on this drive scoring with a 31 yard touchdown pass.  The COMMANDOS would pick up another first down with a pass on this possession before having to punt again after giving up a quarterback sack.  Three plays for Blackman and they would be back in the endzone with a 57 yard pass to take a 0-21 lead.  Halas would have another reception on the ensuing drive before HHS would fumble the ball with the Blaze recovering.

An 18 yard touchdown pass following the turnover would make the score 0-28.  After Hendersonville went 3 & out, the Blaze would return Lisbona’s punt 52 yards to the endzone.  Down 0-35, HHS would have back to back 1st down runs by #5 Reggie Grisham and #20 Nate Hancock before #2 Gabe Dalton would catch a pass from Coker for a 30 yard touchdown making the score 7-35 after #97 Ashton Dodd added the extra point.  On the kickoff, Blackman would return it 95 yards to extend their lead back to 35 points at 7-42.  Hendersonville would have another good drive on this possession moving the ball down the field with two 1st down catches by Dalton and a run by #13 Helton Porter.  The drive would end with Coker racing 13 yards on the ground for another HHS TD.  Blackman would score one more time before halftime to send the teams to the break with the score 14-49.

After receiving the 2nd half kickoff, the COMMANDOS scored on the 1st play with an 80 yard run by Porter.  Once again the Blaze would respond on their next drive scoring with a 5 yard run.  Hendersonville would have their final scoring drive next as Dalton, Porter, Grisham, and #7 Logan Spurrier would help HHS move the ball.  Grisham would cross the goaline this time a 5 yard run of his own making the score 28-56.  Blackman would score their last time on the next drive with a 14 yard TD run.  After the BHS kickoff, Halas would get HHS inside the 20 with a 67 yard catch to start the next HHS possession as the 3rd quarter ended.

This drive would end with a turnover as the COMMANDOS would throw an interception.  Hendersonville would force the only Blackman punt on the next series after giving up one 1st down.  Hendersonville’s drive after the punt would be the last of the game as an HHS punt would end up being the final play of the game.

Hendersonville (0-1) will play their first home game of the 2017 season next Friday night as the Centennial Cougars (1-0) will travel to Memorial Stadium.  That game is set to kickoff at 7:00.  The Freshman team (1-0) will travel to Mt. Juliet on Thursday night to take on the Golden Bears starting at 6:30.
