Led by a group of 21 seniors, the 2017 COMMANDOS returned to the class 6A playoffs following a 6-4 regular season.  HHS finished 2nd in Region 4-6A earning them a home playoff game.  The team would fall in the 1st round of the playoffs making their final record 6-5.  The 6-5 mark was the 5th consecutive winning season for the program.  The year began and ended with losses to Blackman High School while the season was highlighted with a 42-21 victory at Gallatin in the midst of a 4 game winning streak during the season when HHS defeated Franklin in the homecoming game, Wilson Central, Gallatin, and Rossview.

School Records – The COMMANDOS set 9 school records during the 2017 season.  Senior #3 Anthony Hughes led the way, leaving the program being #1 all-time in 5 categories.  Hughes is #1 in career yards per carry setting the mark at 10.1 ypc, eclipsing the 8.6 ypc that Edward Sawyer ran for from 2003-2005.  Hughes ranks #1 in career touchdowns scored with 41, beating Cameron Turner’s 40 TD’s from 2012-2014.   Hughes also surpassed Turner in points scored in a career with 249, Turner had 240.  Hughes had 7 receiving touchdowns in 2017 which ties him with Nick Yazzie (2008) and Braden Schwerdt (2013) for the most receiving TD’s in a season all-time.  Hughes 96 yard kickoff return against Rossview is also tied for the top spot in school history, Ryan Alexander also had a 96 yard kickoff return in 1998 against Oakland.  Senior quarterback #6 Brett Coker now owns two school records as he is #1 with 33 touchdown passes in a career as well as having the top spot in passing yards in a game with 323.  His 33 career passing TD’s is 7 better than Jeremias Elston’s (2012-2014) 26.  Coker threw for 323 yards against Centennial which passed Hunter Brown’s 304 yards against Franklin in 2011.  Senior receiver #2 Gabe Dalton also holds two records, both came in the game against Centennial when he broke the record for most receptions in a game with 9 and most receiving yards in a game with 236.  The previous mark for receptions in a game was set in 2003 by Andrew Liyana versus Gallatin while LaDontez Bryant had the top spot in receiving yards in a game with 141 in 2011 against Riverdale.
