The 2009 season started and ended with overtime games; the first being a double overtime win against perennial powerhouse Riverdale 28-27, and the last being 24-27 defeat in the 1st Round of the TSSAA 5A playoffs to Clarksville Northeast.  The COMMANDOS played a team record 4 overtime games throughout the season going 2-2 in them.  HHS got the big win on TV against Riverdale to start the season, winning the next week made the team 2-0, but with back to back losses the COMMANDOS were even at 2-2.  HHS responded with 4 straight wins including 2 shutouts, but would lose their 5th straight to rival Beech in week 9.  HHS would again bounce back strong handing Gallatin their worst defeat of the season 31-0 (Also the worst defeat of Gallatin in HHS history) to end the regular season 7-3 and ensure a 1st Round home playoff game for the second straight season.  The season would end prematurely as Clarksville Northeast would beat the COMMANDOS in triple overtime 24-27 to end the COMMANDOS hopes of success in the playoffs.  This team helped HHS get home playoff games in back to back seasons for only the second time in schools history.  The only other time that the COMMANDOS were able to have consecutive seasons with home playoff games was in 1997, 1998, and 1999.
