2008 was a CHAMPIONSHIP season for the COMMANDOS as they went undeafted in Region 5 to bring home HHS its 5th Region Championship.  Seniors lead the COMMANDOS to the championship with their leadership and work ethic.  A Week 0 victory over Station Camp was a good start to the season, but with a Week 1 loss to rival Beech and then finding out that 2 games that HHS won would be vacated the COMMANDOS had their backs against the wall.  The record went from 4-1 (2-0) to 2-1 (1-0) with the hardest part of the schedule coming up.  The team would not let that news affect them, and would go on the win each of the last 5 regular season games ending up with a region record of 6-0 and an overall record of 7-1.  HHS had earned its first home playoff game since 2003, and would beat Ravenwood in the first round before going on to lose at home to Franklin (eventual 5A state runner-up) in the second round.

The COMMANDOS were led by senior captains #44 Andrew Hight and #58 Kevin Stephens.  Andrew had a tremendous year on defense after making the move from Defensive End to Linebacker.  He also split time at Tight End with fellow senior #88 Chad Pennington.  Kevin was the leader in the trenches at Offensive Guard and on the Defensive Line, he was steady and great on both sides of the ball.  HHS was also helped by big play threat and the COMMANDOS ‘MVP’ #47 Nick Yazzie who had a tremendous year in all 3 phases of the game.  He was steady and consistant at Cornerback on defense, and broke a HHS Football record with the most reiciving yards in a season at Wide Reciever with 728 yards including 8 TD’s.  He was also the COMMANDOS return man, and had a chance to score every time he returned the ball.
